The biggest mistake in building cleaning? The wrong timing.

When cleaning commercial buildings, the outcome rarely depends on the cleaning agent — it depends on the timing. Especially glass and façade cleaning at larger commercial properties loses its effect within days when scheduled just before peak pollen season. The panes look dirty again in short order — and the whole effort feels to owner and tenants like money down the drain.

Why timing is so decisive

Pollen, flower dust and the first summer dust settle particularly aggressively on freshly cleaned glass. Anyone cleaning in the wrong window pays for a result that optically returns to square one within a few days. On large glass façades, lobbies and representative commercial fronts that is a double problem: additional cost plus an impression of neglect — exactly where external image counts.

For glass and façade cleaning in particular, preparation often matters more than the cleaning itself.

What professional building cleaning really depends on

Robust commercial building cleaning is project work, not just a scrubbing job. These ten points separate a clean run from an expensive miss:

  • The right cleaning window — matched to pollen, weather and property usage.
  • Fit-for-purpose cleaning agents for each surface (glass, aluminium, natural stone, coated façades).
  • Experienced specialist staff — glass and façade cleaning is its own craft.
  • Professional equipment and machines, regularly serviced and matched to the building.
  • Lifting platforms and special vehicles for height work and hard-to-reach areas.
  • Safety concepts for staff, tenants and passers-by around the site.
  • Permits for work in public space — applied for in time, not on the day.
  • Street and pavement barriers for inner-city properties.
  • Sufficient staff for fast, efficient execution without disturbing operations.
  • Documented, plannable processes for commercial clients — including protocol, photo documentation and fixed points of contact.

Preparation beats execution

Logistics, permits, safety cordons and the right team size decide whether a cleaning appointment delivers a clean result or wastes half a day. Anyone arriving without a booked platform slot, without a special-use permit or with too small a team produces follow-up cost — and in the inner city, conflicts with neighbours and authorities.

Our recommendation

Schedule glass and façade cleaning after peak pollen season, ideally tied to a fixed maintenance and cleaning cycle. On tall commercial buildings: secure platforms, permits and barriers early and commit them with the service provider — do not improvise the day before. A documented annual plan is cheaper and cleaner than any ad-hoc action.
